Unpacking in your new home can take time. Here are our best tips for unpacking efficiently and easily so you can relax much quicker.

So, it’s the first day in your brand new home and you’re ready to unpack, but the numerous boxes and items of furniture are sitting in random rooms, which can be frustrating. Here are our best tips for unpacking efficiently and easily so you can relax much quicker.

The length of time it can take to unpack can vary depending on the house size. Smaller homes can probably be fully unpacked in 1-2 days whereas larger homes might take a couple of days extra. It never hurts to ask for help.

Tips For Unpacking Easily and Efficiently:
  1. Put all of your boxes in the right rooms
  2. Visualise the way you want the room to look
  3. Split the unpacking
  4. Don’t sweat the small stuff
  5. Anticipate the future but don’t go crazy
1. Put All Of Your Boxes In The Right Rooms

Hopefully you have written on the side of the boxes which room they apply to (if not, this is your sign to do so before you enter your new house). Take one box at a time and move it into the right room. Only kitchen boxes in the kitchen, bathroom boxes in the bathroom and so on.

This means that you know that everything you need is in one place and you can get started making each room your own.

2. Visualise The Way You Want The Room To Look

The best artists and filmmakers already have an idea in their head of what they want their finished masterpiece to look like - decorating a room is no different. The likelihood is that you will have a pretty good idea of what items you had in your old house.

Visualise and even draw out the room as you would like it to look, therefore instead of chopping and changing things at the last minute, you can unpack knowing that you’ll be happy with the finished outcome.

3. Split The Unpacking Between Bedrooms

Living with parents, friends or kids who might all have separate bedrooms? Let everyone unpack their own room instead of everyone doing one room at a time. This will give everyone a chance to decorate their own room the way they like as well as helping you to unpack more efficiently as numerous rooms are unpacked at once.

4. Don’t Spend Too Much Time On Placing Small Items

Each room will have lots of tiny ornaments, decorations and other small belongings. Worrying about the whereabouts of every single one will take up far more time than you realise. The reality is, these items can be moved about instantly once the room looks more full and you’ll have a better idea of where you want it to go.

Get the main items in place, put small items in temporary (but still sensible) places and come back to them once the room is in. It will take 10 seconds to find the perfect place for it if you ever want to move it.

5. Anticipate The Future But Don’t Go Crazy

It’s always a good idea to look ahead. Maybe you want to get a new tall lamp or an additional chair? Take this into consideration but if you’re not careful you could spend hours moving things around and wondering over thousands of ‘what if…?’ possibilities. Keep future purchases in mind but don’t let it delay you settling in.

Our packing service includes the use of hanging wardrobe cartons which can hold your hung up clothes without any need of folding or risk of creasing. They also reduce unpacking time as your clothing remains on their hangers.
